DISCET was founded in March 1998 at the height of a brutal civil war by, Reverend Canon Doctor Modupe Taylor Pearce, as a direct response to the trauma caused by the ten-year war. DISCET's aim is to serve the church and the people of Sierra Leone through the provision of counselling, Evanglism and Training/Teaching.

Objectives:
To advance the Christian religion in particular but not exclusively by;

  • Supporting the provision of evangelistic and preaching services amongst the people of Sierra Leone
  • Providing and supporting Christian-based advice and counselling, to facilitate reconciliation and the spiritual well-being of the people of Sierra Leone
  • Supporting and equipping pastors and other Christian leaders with the aim to enhance their capacity for Christian service, conflict resolution and reconciliation
  • To relieve those in Sierra Leone who are in need, hardship or distress
  • Counselling
    'For as he thinketh in his heart so he is' (Proverbs 27:3)
    DISCET believes that through counselling, individuals can improve their self-esteem, which will create a ripple effect in their lives. They will be spiritually, emotionally and physically able to lead a productive life and have a positive impact in their community.

    Evangelism
    'And the peace of God, which passeth all human understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.' (Philippians 4:7)
    DISCET know through scripture and experience that only God can sustain lasting transformation. Therefore DISCET counsellors leave no bridge uncrossed, to bring their clients to a point where they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and are therefore in a position to search and meditate on scripture for themselves.

    Teaching and Training
    'And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others' (2 Timothy 2:2)
    DISCET is committed to teaching others to share the burden and increase our territory so that every heart and every mind can be transformed. During the past nine years DISCET has partnered with churches, organisations and Christians worldwide, with the common aim of transforming the hearts and minds of every Sierra Leonean. To this end DISCET has:

    • Trained hundreds of Christian Leaders in Evangelism and Counselling Directly counselled over 300 counselees
    • Evangelised countrywide resulting in over 1,500 Sierra Leoneans accepting Jesus as their Lord and Saviour
    • Facilitated the participation of over 200 churches countrywide in DISCET programmes
